The Quilter’s Market is actively involved in our community!

Quilters are, without a doubt, the most giving, generous people anywhere, and that’s especially true of our customers, who give from their hearts and hands continually and tirelessly.  Here are a few of the activities we support:

First Annual Quilted with Love Event

Friday, November 27, 2015
9am – 5:30pm
IMG_1053‘Tis the season to give the gift of love – and give back to our community! At our Quilted With Love event, customers can find over a hundred locally hand-made quilts for sale, which include baby quilts, quilts for children and adults, wall hangings, quilted pillows, table runners and tote bags. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local non-profit, Quilt For a Cause. Please bring your friends and family, enjoy some tasty refreshments, participate in a raffle for a chance to win a lovely hand-made quilt, and partake in the beauty of avoiding the malls on Black Friday while mingling with our staff and other Tucson shoppers.

Quilt for a Cause

is a Tucson founded and based nonprofit organization that is near and dear to the QM heart.  QFaC’s stated mission is to use the art and business of quilting to pursue advances in breast and/or gynecologic cancers by raising funds for research, by continuing the education of medical professionals, and by supporting clinical organizations that raise awareness, offer detection and provide treatment for all women.  To date, QFaC has raised over $750,000 for the women of southern Arizona.

The Quilter’s Market actively supports QFaC by raising monies through activities at our annual retreat, Camp Wannamakaquilta,  our Quilted with Love quilt sale, and other various activities throughout the year.

 Heads at Ease

The customers and staff of Quilter’s Market continually support Heads at Ease, a Tucson founded and based organization that sends hand-made pillowcases to deployed men and women in our armed services around the world.  Founded by Navy mom Sue Lambert, Heads at Ease has sent tens of thousands of pillowcases as  “little touch of home” to those brave individuals who serve for us.
Through the years, The Quilter’s Market has made and donated thousands of pillowcases (we lost count a long time ago!) to Heads at Ease, and has held numerous community Pillowcase Sew-a-Thons as well as weekly Charity Bees to sew them.  Like to get involved?  Stop by the shop and pick up a free pillowcase pattern or come to one of our monthly Charity Bees – we’ll have pillowcase kits ready for you to sew!

Project Linus

The Quilter’s Market is involved with Project Linus as a drop off location for hand made quilts and blankets.  Project Linus, a national organization’s mission is to “Provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer ‘blanketeers.’ ”  Our customers generously give of their time and talents to make beautiful hand made quilts and afghans and drop them off at The Market for Linus pickup.

Beads of Courage

The TQM community supports Beads of Courage, a Tucson-based national organization whose stated mission is, “providing innovative, arts-in-medicine supportive care programs for children coping with serious illness, their families and the health care providers who care for them.”

Quilter’s Market staff and customers support Beads of Courage by making small, drawstring bags that are used by children involved in the Beads of Courage program to collect and hold their Beads.  Interested in helping out?  Come to our Charity Bee and sew with us, or  call us for more information!

TMC Hospice/Pepe’s House

Our quilters support TMC’s Hospice, “Pepe’s House” through ongoing donations of lovely, hand made quilts that are used to cover the beds of patients while at hospice.  These colorful quilts add a touch of home and a are a comfort to patients and their families at a very difficult time.  Some families of patients opt to take the quilts home as a special memory of their loved one after their passing.

To date, TQM has donated over two hundred quilts to Pepe’s House, soliciting donations of finished quilts through their Summer Bingo event, ongoing Charity Bee and Ladies Day In sewing events.

Southern Arizona Community Food Bank

TQM supports our local food bank by raising monies through various shop events, such as the sale of “Summer of Sharing” Bingo Cards, our “Holiday Happening” night and other various events.  To date, TQM has donated over $4000 to the Southern Arizona Community Food Bank.
